Providence Health & Services Engineer 3 Server/Systems Integration in Beaverton, Oregon

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling an Engineer 3 Server to our location in Beaverton, OR.

We are seeking a Engineer 3 Server to include researching new technologies and upgrades and determining their effectiveness; engineering and integrating new and existing technologies, tools, and applications into the PHS environment; documenting decisions, designs, and installation instructions; and training the appropriate internal resources. On call support is usually a requirement for an Engineer. These responsibilities span the Providence Health System facilities throughout the Oregon region. At times, engineers will be expected to assist PHS IS employees in other service areas where PHP equipment resides.

An Engineer can advance through three defined levels of this job category. There are six (6) major areas of activity:

MAJOR CHALLENGES:

  4. Ensure proper documentation is created and maintained for all technical environments that reside within PHP.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

Provide leadership to others as demonstrated by:

  • Provides technical support of production, development, and/or test Windows based and other client and server systems based OS, Citrix, Exchange Server, IIS, SAN, DNS/DHCP/WINS, Design and Architecture, Print Services, business critical applications and Anti-Virus deployment and support.

  • Assists in the coordination and establishment of disaster recovery processes and business resumption planning across Windows based server platforms.

  • Schedules, performs and maintains operation system installations and upgrades, as well as layered software packages, in accordance with established. policies and performance levels.

  • Monitors, evaluates and configures systems to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures server data integrity by evaluation, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.

  • Ensures data recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operational procedures.

  • Conducts routine hardware and software audits of Windows based servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies and configuration guidelines. Maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration library of all supported systems.

  • Provides the highest degree of data security and integrity through diligent and daily monitoring of backup logs for each assigned server with action plans should such monitoring indicate a need to resolve a failure.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide a mentoring relationship to ensure the user device staff have and maintain the skills necessary to collaboratively (as guided) resolve remote hardware problems.

  • Provide clear, concise and complete operational change communication.

  • Provide optimal problem resolution processes by making full and appropriate use of internal and external resources including OEM and third party maintenance vendors.

  • Continual research, learn and acquire new knowledge to improve the operational services delivered by the Windows based sever team. Communicate this knowledge with the other members of your team to enhance our overall knowledge and competency level.

  • Carry a pager and/or cell phone and be available during specified hours of coverage on a standby basis and also available as an integral member of a system support team during normal and crisis situations.

PROJECT/SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for engineering large, technical projects by:

  • Researching and maintaining a knowledge of new emerging products and strategies and their relative value against competitors and the benefit to the organization. Easily assimilates new technologies and arrives at viable conclusions regarding their value to the organization.

  • Conducting integrated testing of all system functions.

  • Assimilating new technologies and features, conceptualizes these with the current environment and long term goals, and provides technical strategies/directions for the region.

  • Producing procedures and policies for new products and/or methodologies in an exemplary manner, setting the standards for the group.

  • Documenting the technical standards decisions, system designs and procedures in an exemplary manner, setting the standards for the group.

  • Being established as a leader in teamwork, documentation, technical expertise, judgment, and strategy.

  • Facilitating engineering teams.

Develop comprehensive cost projections, demonstrated by:

  • Preparation of a comprehensive cost/benefit analysis.

Create a comprehensive project charter template for proposed projects, demonstrated by:

  • Completion of standard PHS IS charter template for proposed projects.

  • Completion of standard PHS IS project timeline template for proposed projects.

Produce clear, concise, and meaningful project status reports, demonstrated by:

  • Production of relevant status reports on time and with use of standard PHS IS reporting mechanisms and tools.

Orchestrate a project involving multiple IS departments, demonstrated by:

  • Preparation and execution of work plan involving resource responsibility by multiple departments.

  • Identification of, and negotiation for, resources outside of area of influence.

Orchestrate multiple teams as demonstrated by:

  • Providing coordination for resolving issues across multiple teams or departments.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of IT related experience or Associate's Degree with 8 years of IT related experience or equivalent educ/experience.

Education/Experience Equivalencies:

10 years of IT related experience without a degree.

  • At least 4 years Industry experience supporting production level Windows servers in a 24x7 environment.

  • Experience providing technical and/or work process guidance and direction to team members.

  • Experience at creating, assigning and following up on task across multiple technology disciplines.

  • Experience in two or more of the following sub-specialties associated with Windows based sever management: Active Directory, Virtual Machine, Linux-based OS, Citrix, Exchange Server, IIS, SAN, Back-ups, DNS/DHCP/WINS, Design and Architecture, Print Services, specific business critical applications, Anti-Virus deployment and support.

Business Knowledge:

  • Experience of the customers business (operational area supported).

  • Information Services experience providing support, preferably in a healthcare industry setting.

Evidence of advanced competency in technical expertise through the following:

  • Ability to provide mentoring to level 1 and 2 staff regarding the execution of tasks, emerging technologies, and best practices for maintaining the highest levels of server reliability and data integrity.

  • Professional level communication and presentation skills to effectively conduct productive technical and non-technical meetings and briefings with colleagues, vendors, organizational leaders and executive level attendees.

  • Provide leadership role in obtaining and directing technical resources during problem resolutions or during a crisis or critical problem event. Takes the lead in communications and vendor management.

  • Ability to recognize when standards, processes, policies or procedures are no longer effective and proactively resolves or assigns responsibility to resolve these issues and follows through to completion including a review of new policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Effective project management for medium to large applications, servers and technology enhancements.

  • Knowledge in two or more of the following sub-specialties associated with Windows based sever management: Active Directory, Virtual Machine, Linux-based OS, Citrix, Exchange Server, IIS, SAN, Back-ups, DNS/DHCP/WINS, Design and Architecture, Print Services, specific business critical applications, Anti-Virus deployment and support.

  • Ability to create, and design an architecture to integrate applications, taking into account security, Servers and SAN environments.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • IT engineering certifications (MCSE, MCSD, or CNE) may be considered to supplement experience where the same or similar accountabilities could not be substantiated.
