Providence Endoscopy Technician - Short Stay Surgical Unit in Oregon City, Oregon
Providence is calling an Endoscopy Technician (0.6 FTE, Variable) to work in Short Stay Surgical Unit at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.
You will work 8-hour shifts (typically 6am-2:30pm) in this part-time role that is eligible for benefits. In addition, this position will be in a call rotation (1 night per week and 1 weekend per month) from 2:30pm - 6:30am.
An Endoscopy Technician who will work closely with all members of Medical Procedures team to provide direct patient care in an effort to optimize positive patient outcomes. Assist the physician and RN before, during and after a procedure by providing the appropriate equipment and supplies. Assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring at the Endoscopy Unit.
In this position, you will:
Review cases in advance in order to provide equipment and supplies specific to the procedure
Anticipate surgeon/proceduralists needs by being cognizant of changes and preparing in advance when additional supplies and equipment are required.
Work with sedation nurse in preparing room, equipment, opening supplies and medications or solutions
Prepare charts for new patients and maintain the upkeep of these charts; i.e. dates, addressograph, adding additional sheets, order of forms and placement of forms.
Select appropriate cleaning and disinfection method for scopes and other equipment.
Anticipate workload and coordinate with staff and physicians.
Prioritize instrumentation upon arrival ensuring proper initial care
Disassemble and reassemble instruments correctly when appropriate.
Inspect instruments and test for proper function.
Initiate repair for any malfunctioning instrumentation
Advise and inform professional staff and services representatives about equipment utilization and maintenance concerns.
Assist surgeon/proceduralist with:
Passing instruments and supplies.
Applying specialized equipment as requested such as cautery.
Under direct supervision of surgeon/proceduralists:
Holds scopes and specialized instrumentation
Prepares and labels specimens
Under the direction of a licensed MD and/or RN appropriately draws up, labels and administers medications and solutions.
Ensure patient safety by:
Immediately reporting/replacing malfunctioning equipment.
Maintaining clean/sterile technique.
Participating in validating correct surgical procedure/site
Observing electrocautery safety policy
Verifying and labeling medications on the sterile field.
Participating in ensuring correct patient positioning
Reporting abnormal patient conditions and performing effectively during emergency situations.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certified Nursing Assistant 2 through the OSBN (Oregon State Board of Nursing) -or- minimum 1 year of experience as a GI Tech
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA-BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
Experience using various computer software programs
Preferred qualification for this position include:
- Endoscopy/surgical tech/acute CNA experience in hospital setting
