We are seeking a Limited Maintenance Electrical Building Engineer Apprentice - Facility Services that will be enrolled to the Limited Maintenance Electrical License apprenticeship program and complete the classroom work and on the job training within the time frames defined the Limited Maintenance Electrical License apprenticeship program standards. Complete the apprenticeship documentation accurately and on time. Pass the Limited Maintenance Electrical License Test. Acts, at all times, to maintain a safe patient care environment and work place. Acts, at all times, in a manner that supports a respectful, cooperative, and positive work environment. Maintains and repairs mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, hospital equipment and appliances within the limits of the electrical code or under the supervision of journeyman building engineer. Monitors, operates and maintain central plant systems including; boilers, chillers, medical gas and emergency power generators. Monitors and operates the building control and fire alarm systems. Respond to fire and other emergency events as directed.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Be enrolled the Limited Maintenance Electrical License apprenticeship program and complete the classroom work and on the job training within the time frames defined the Limited Maintenance Electrical License apprenticeship program standards.
Complete the apprenticeship documentation accurately and on time
Pass the Limited Maintenance Electrical License test within 6 months of completion of the LME program
Maintain a safe work environment at all times, identifies, and reports unsafe equipment and conditions to the lead or department manager with special focus on fire safety and infection control
Act, at all times, in a manner that supports a friendly, respectful and positive work environment
Perform duties in a manner that protects confidential information and privacy of patients and employees
Perform duties in a manner that complies with the Providence Health System Code of Conduct
Develop and maintains a working knowledge of infection control procedures
Develop and maintains a working knowledge of the building systems and controls that affect infection control
Maintain a working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
Develop and maintains a working knowledge of the safe use, handling and storage of hazardous materials used in the work environment
Independently develop new knowledge of emerging processes, equipment, and technologies used to carry out the work
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the locations and operation of equipment, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and devices assigned to the department with an emphasis on infection control, fire safety and emergency equipment and systems
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of personal responsibilities for compliance with TJC standards
Actively support and participates in the service excellence program
Continuously work to improve personal performance by:
Actively seek and participate in skills improvement and development training
Actively seek and incorporate performance feed back
Perform building operations and maintenance duties as directed by the apprentice supervisor:
Inspect, test, operate, maintains building utility and fire safety system
Operate, monitor and maintain central plant equipment:
Chilled water system
Emergency Power Generators
Medical Gas & Vacuum system
Inspect, test, and repairs hospital equipment, and appliances as assigned
Install, repairs, and remove, equipment and appliances as assigned
Repair plumbing equipment and unplugs toilets
Maintain mechanical rooms in a clean and organized manner
Complete work orders records and required documentation of maintenance activity
Utilize hospital and department resources in an appropriate and responsible manner, consistent with department policies:
Report to work on time and observes defined frequency and duration of break periods
Arrive at meetings and appointments on time
Plan, prioritize, problem solves, and carries out work in an efficient and productive manner with limited supervision
Follow hospital and department purchasing procedures
Secure tools and equipment to minimize potential of theft
Maintain all tools in a safe and serviceable condition
Respond to fire and other emergency events as directed
Respond appropriately to other emergency events and callbacks as required
Attend and participate in department and team meetings
Communicate with the apprentice supervisor, chief engineer, and department manager regarding status of work orders and departmental concerns
Required qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
Experienced in the operations of fire alarm systems
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Coursework/Training: Trained in use of computerized building controls system (DDC) -OR- equivalent education/experience
Universal Refrigerant handling certificate
Valid driver's license
Three (3) years of Experience in central plant operations and maintenance
