The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Transformation Program Strategy, reporting to the VP of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation, is responsible for imagining what it will take to continually pursue the PHP vision and facilitate the methodologies and processes to achieve success.

At a specific level, the AVP is responsible for:

  • supporting executive leaders in establishing an adaptive strategic plan and framework to establish the ‘north star’, anchor decision making, and drive results.

  • supporting corporate-level governance and cross-functional processes and forums for efficiency and effectiveness of transformational activities.

  • managing the transformation agenda and directors, transformation initiative roadmaps, and executing successful delivery of transformational projects through the planning, execution and closure phases.

This position is directly responsible for the following functional departments: Transformation Strategy and Planning, Transformation Business Requirements and Management, Business Analytics, and Business Process Improvement.

The successful candidate is expected to be a visionary leader, who provides thought leadership to the VP of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation and the members of the Executive Leadership Team throughout the end-to-end transformational process. This position relies on a matrix of executives and function leaders that serve as project sponsors and business owners. Thus, the successful candidate must quickly form strategic relationships with key executives and individual contributors across the organization, bringing the right capabilities togethers to enable alignment, and realize expansion, growth, and value.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Leads with a social justice orientation in alignment with Providence Health Plan mission and values, fostering a sense of belonging and commitment to a diverse staff and organization

  2. Works with the VP of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation, Executive Leadership Team, and Markets Presidents to understand corporate strategy, direction, and priorities in order to achieve success.

  3. Establishes and governs Transformation Program planning processes related to strategy, governance, and organizational design.

  4. Works with key executives and core leaders to ensure Transformation processes, tools, and approaches are effective, understood, and maximized.

  5. Develops change and transition management strategies necessary to accomplish goals.

Management Responsibility

  • Behaves in a manner consistent with PHP policies and promotes the mission and values of PHP.

  • Manages a team of direct reports including Directors, Program Managers, and Analysts.

  • In partnership with the VP of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation, establishes performance metrics and holds team(s) accountable for achieving individual and organizational goals.

  • Works with team to identify and resolve issues and problems affecting their area and provides them with counsel, guidance, and direction as appropriate.

  • Establishes success indicators and objectives consistent with the divisional leadership and in support of the Providence Mission.

  • Develops and manages an operating budget as appropriate.

  • Manages direct reports in an effective and motivating manner.

  • Selects, motivates and develops key management personnel within areas of responsibility; Responsible for recruitment and retention of caregivers.

  • Works with the VP of Strategy & Innovation and legal department to assure compliance with all applicable laws and governing agencies.

  • Works as a team member with other core leaders and provides leadership as needed across the enterprise.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Any relevant field; and/or equivalent experience

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field; and/or equivalent experience

  • Completion of advanced-level educational program in business process improvement, project management, change and transition management; and/or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of work experience in health care, preferably in an integrated health system, health plan, hospital, or public health setting

  • 10+ years or recent health plan/payor leadership experience

  • 7+ years of leadership or management experience consistent with the duties described

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience with program planning and execution

  • 5+ years of experience with organizational development and change and transition management

  • Demonstrated visionary and thought-leader

  • Uncanny ability to solve tough problems, manage ambiguity, and navigate paradox

  • Establishes a team culture that looks to disrupt, improve, and evolve ways of working when it is necessary

  • Identify gaps in the market and spots opportunities to create value propositions

  • Continuously scans the landscape for best practices that yield market-differentiated solutions

  • Experience partnering with senior executives on business planning and optimization.

  • Ability to lead meaningful change

  • Exhibits high emotional intelligence and prefers to work in a collaborative team-based environment

  • Ability to manage in a complex matrix environment

  • Capable of managing cross-functional initiatives and balancing extensive data and detail

  • Strong analytical skills, problem solving tools/methods

  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and overseeing transformational governance processes

  • Demonstrated excellence in the management of strategic execution, cross-functional collaboration and alignment, and program management or other related discipline

  • Well-versed in transition and change management methodologies

  • Excellent understanding of the managed care, insurance, and healthcare businesses across medical, pharmacy, and behavioral health, for all funding types

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to influence constituencies and gain agreements outside of their direct span of control.
