Providence is calling an Emergency Department - Crisis Intervention Specialist (0.6 FTE, Evenings) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

This position will work the following schedule:
Saturdays at Providence St. Vincents: 9am - 7:30pm
Sundays at Provident Portland: 7:30pm - 7:30am
We are seeking an Emergency Department Crisis Intervention Specialist who will independently practice in an evaluation/treatment setting to evaluate and treat psychiatric and substance use disorders. The ED Crisis Intervention Specialist will collaborate with patient/support systems to evaluate and diagnose, utilize Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders; assess patient risk to self and/or others, complete and implement risk reduction/mitigation plans to ensure patient and community safety; provide crisis evaluations and develop care plan for patient including out-patient resources, follow-up appointments and inpatient admission if needed. He/she will demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities of advanced social work practice and shall perform duties in a manner that respects patient self-determination, reduces health disparities/barriers to care, and adheres to the appropriate code of ethics based on licensure, Standards of Practice (SOP), and the Providence mission.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Rapidly establish therapeutic rapport and alliance
Recognize barrier(s) to establishing rapport and alliance, adopt modifications in evaluation and crisis interventions to effectively overcome the barrier(s)
Complete mental health and substance use assessment and determine clinical level of care based on established criteria
Incorporate best practice methodology consistently monitor for and assess patient risk for suicide and homicide
Develop suicide and homicide risk reduction/mitigation plans that reduce or eliminate this risk for patients and the community
Identify and include biopsychosocial issues/conditions to support wellness and recovery into crisis psychotherapy interventions as appropriate, these will include providing directly or by referral for conditions including but not limited to vocation, social, education, safe residence/environment, access to physical health resources and other basic needs
Provide effective individual and family/support system crisis interventions relevant to the diagnoses established reducing or resolving chief complaint and other symptoms as appropriate to the location of care/point of service.
Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries with patients, family/support, and others involved in crisis services
Effectively recognize dual relationships, seek supervision and manage them appropriately
Effectively establish relationships with other colleagues and disciplines within the location of care/point of service
Act as advocate for patients, family/support and community
Establish and communicate effective clinical ability and credibility in working with internal and external colleagues
Accurately document assessments, recommendation/plan of treatment, crisis psychotherapy service following all established and compliant requirements
Based on assessment and establish criteria assign or change level of care
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Master's Degree; eligible for licensure as LCSW, LPC, -OR- LMFT in accordance with the appropriate Oregon Board of licensure
Two (2) years post Master's experience in a behavioral health treatment setting
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), (Licensed Professional Counselor) LPC -OR- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensure with the state of Oregon
American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (AHA - BLS) certification at time of hire or within 60 days of hire
Prevention and Management of Assaultive Behavior (PMAB) training within 60 days of hire
Re-certification is required annually
Preferred qualification for this position include:
- Two (2) years experience in providing emergency or inpatient services
