Providence Director, Business Development: Group Health Insurance Sales in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling Director, Business Development - Group Health Insurance Sales who will:

  • Be responsible for building Providence Health Plan's market position across several lines of business, including large group fully insured plans and self-insured plans, including third party administrator (TPA) and administrative services only (ASO)

  • Partner with Sales leadership and Sales staff to establish and mature employer and producer relationships required to grow new membership and retain existing membership

  • Be adept at strategic selling, developing relationships and connecting PHP and PPP solutions to prospects' and customers’ business challenges

  • Actively support and collaborate with our Sales teams and senior leadership to grow market share, as well as our internal stakeholders as a trusted voice of the market

This position is considered to be a hybrid role, meaning that the role will require a combination of in-office and work from home time week over week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • New business prospecting and relationship development, assisting account executives with closing deals

  • Customer retention support via executive relationship development, assisting account managers with strategic renewals

  • Schedule client introductions and meetings; preparing presentations, proposals and bid specifications to win new business through strategic sales

  • Proactively develop new customer contacts, review leads and participate in communicating and marketing to prospects

  • Lead and manage event coordination of in-market relationship development activities

  • Meets or exceeds all required prospecting activity standards as set by Sales management

  • Meets or exceeds all closed business targets as set by Sales management

  • Plan and consult within a team-based environment to coordinate activities and support new sales efforts with account executives, Sales leadership and senior PHP and PSJH leadership

  • Maintain records of all prospecting and account activities within PHP’s CRM system

  • Attend industry conferences, workshops and training to enhance product and sales knowledge and skills

  • Attend community events to foster networking, establish leads and represent PHP

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively and in partnership with other department directors and managers to improve Plan processes and provide excellent service to all customers

  • Develops and provides regular Business Development reporting to the VP, Sales & Account Services and VP, Growth Strategies

  • Keeps current on local and national insurance industry, laws, regulations and legislative activity

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • 3 years' experience in group health insurance sales and/or service

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • 6 years' experience in group health insurance sales and/or service, with experience in working with self-funded health insurance plans

  • Experience with stop loss, large group sales, and large group account management

  • Local market experience, including established producer and major employer relationships
