Providence Health & Services Histotechnician 1 in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Histotechnician (1.0 FTE, Nights) to Providence Office Park in Portland, OR.

In this position you will:

  • Be a technical expert.

  • Possess a higher level of training concerning tissue selection and examination.

  • Have an advanced understanding of immunohistochemistry as applied to patient diagnosis and management.

  • In-depth knowledge of interdepartmental policies and the need for proper documentation.

  • Take the initiative to create and maintain documentation, procedures, and/or training materials for the entire department that may include special staining and immunohistochemistry.

  • Perform routine and developmental duties in histological and immunohistochemistry laboratory techniques and troubleshoot procedural and technical problems.

  • Be capable of organizing, coordinating, and developing technical components of new methodology and staining techniques for immunohistochemistry.

  • Maintain excellent relationships between co-workers and key stakeholders of the department such as pathologists, physicians, and other customers.

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the procedures and work flow by: assisting in evaluating processes, suggesting/implementing improvements and monitoring results to improve service and reduce costs; contributing to accurate analysis of tests and/or instrumentation; assisting in establishment and monitoring of departmental goals for quality assurance; and working across sections to contribute to the overall success of laboratory operations.

  • Possess an understanding of the Providence Health & Services and Oregon Regional Laboratory Services goals and strategies, including the Regional Laboratory Quality Policy.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school or equivalent

  • Associate's degree with courses in Algebra, Chemistry and Biology and formally accepted into a PHS-supervised on-the-job-training (OJT) program as a Histotechnician
