Providence Health & Services Hospital Supervisor in Portland, Oregon

Description:

Providence is calling a Hospital Supervisor (0.9 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

This position will work 3, 12 hour shifts/wk. A majority of shifts will need to be night shifts, but there will be some day shifts involved as well. The House Supervisor will self-schedule and will rotate weekends with their House Supervisor peers. This position does not involve any patient care; rather, the House Supervisor is the "go to" on off hours and weekends when leaders are gone. Therefore, we're looking for individuals who are good communicators, excellent problem solvers, and have solid leadership experience with a great interpersonal style.

In this position, you will:

  • Coordinate the general operation of the Department of Nursing and provide administrative coverage for Providence Portland Medical Center and those departments operating on a 24-hour basis when senior administrative personnel are not present.

  • Act as a mentor and role model for the nursing staff on his/her shift by supporting and assisting the staff in development of problem solving assertiveness and leadership skills.

  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Staffing department in assisting with staffing and in crisis situations, as appropriate, supports the Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse in coordination and assignment of the nursing staff.

  • Initiate the disaster preparedness plan if needed in collaboration with the Manager of Emergency Preparedness.

  • Have the ability to communicate effectively, function in crisis and urgent situations and to follow-up with department managers and staff are key skills required for this position.

  • Be accountable for patient flow, and the provision and quality of nursing services at the facility level for a defined shift, in support of Providence Health & Services system and regional goals.

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and effective patient placement, balanced with optimal and efficient patient care and service.

  • Assume a primary focus on patient flow, assuring the patient reaches the right bed, the first time, with the necessary resources to provide care.

  • Constantly focus on patient safety, patient-centeredness, and efficient processes and systems, to support the standards and systems for care delivery for the facility.

  • Provide leadership that consistently supports efficient and effective patient care services and that supports the organizational and system goals.This includes advancing the strategic vision and goals of Providence Portland Medical Center.

  • Constructively manage change and promote a team-based approach.

  • Consistently role model professional nursing standards and expectations, and perform all duties in a manner that reflect the Providence and St Joseph Mission and Philosophy.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Current unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card required. Must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire

  • 5 years of acute care nursing experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or master's degree in related field

  • National Certification in med/surg or related nursing area

  • 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience
