We are seeking a Mental Health Associate (MHA) - Mental Health Adult who will provide patient care under the direct supervision of the RN, with indirect supervision of mental health skills by an employed Mental Health Professional. Provides hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieu management for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness. Under the direction of an RN, observes and reports on patient conditions, changes, and collaborates with treatment team in developing treatment plans. Is sensitive to needs of these patients and alerts care team leaders of a change in status of the patients on the inpatient psychiatric unit.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Provide for the milieu management of patients using psychosocial rehabilitation approaches under the guidance and supervision of the RN or other mental health professional
Serve as monitor of activities on the unit and provide one to one visualization of the patients assigned
Provide feedback and information to the RN and other team members regarding observed behaviors of patients that are outside the norm of expectations on the unit
Provide for the effective and proper functioning of the unit by monitoring patient condition and activity
Maintain unit security and provides life support in emergency situations until code team arrives
Maintain high level of awareness of the condition of unit milieu and problems which could endanger others including observations of patients in relation to their disabilities, age and medical diagnoses
Perform direct observations of patients with suicidal or homicidal thoughts; and observe family or collateral involvement as directed
Support activities and action to improve collaboration and liaison with other departments referring agencies and outside providers, may assist discharge planning process and patient in making and completing phone contacts with providers and others
Contribute to high quality unit functioning by maintaining professional standards and ethics and strict confidentiality of information
Provide care for ADLs as needed, and other nursing assistant duties within the Scope of Practice for C.N.A.s in Oregon
Provide input to RN, LCSW, MHP and MD regarding patient observations
Survey and monitor unit facility to ensure safety is maintained. Take immediate action to remediate and troubleshoot issues
Conduct recreational and therapeutic activities as assigned in a manner that is consistent with maintaining professional boundaries, provide timely and appropriate therapeutic support, and is deemed within the Scope of Practice of a CNA2 and deemed appropriate for the patient population
May accompany patients on trial visits into the community for external discharge placement
Accompany patients off of unit to procedures within the hospital
Report immediately any changes in patient condition, physical or behavioral to the RN assigned to the patient
Perform routine and assigned duties to ensure the proper maintenance and functioning of the unit for quality assurance, regulatory guidelines, and as needed
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience of 3-years in a mix of Residential Inpatient, Psych Outpatient, or any Acute Settings (does not need to be behavioral health)
Studies include, but, are not limited to: Psychology, Social Sciences, Social Work, or related to a behavioral health field. Also included are major studies in the medical field, including, but not limited to: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.
BLS Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) prior to hire. Re-certification required every 2-years.
State of Oregon CNA2 license required within 1-year of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
State of Oregon CNA2 license or to be obtained within 1-year of hire
One (1) year experience in an inpatient mental health setting
