Providence Health & Services Mental Health Associate in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Mental Health Associate (0.8 FTE, Evenings) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Note: At this time, the leadership team will only review candidates that currently have a CNA2 certification and Mental Health experience.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieu management for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness.

  • Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), observe and report on patient conditions, changes, and collaborate with treatment team in developing treatment plans.

  • Be sensitive to needs of these patients and alert care team leaders of a change in status of the patients on the inpatient psychiatric unit.

  • Be responsible to act in accordance with our guiding principles of: "Know Me, Care for Me and Ease My Way" with each patient.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral sciences field; -or-

  • A combination of at least 3 years of relevant work, education, training or experience in an intensive psychiatric residential or outpatient setting; -or-

  • 1 year in an acute inpatient psychiatric facility

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA-BLS) Certification and re-certification every 2 years

  • Completion of the basic Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA2) program within 1 year of hire

  • (CNA and CNA2 is preferred not required for the Child and Adolescent Psych unit)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Current certification and Oregon State license to practice as a CNA2

  • 1 year of experience in an inpatient mental health setting
