We are seeking a Physicist - Radiation Oncology that will provide clinical physic support to the department of Radiation oncology including patient treatment planning, equipment calibrations, QC and QA measurements, patient dosimetry, new procedure development, and consultation services to the physicians on medical physics issues. Performs special treatment procedures including, SBRT, HDR, LDR and other treatment modalities as necessary. Demonstrates competence in all treatment modalities offered. Work with the Chief or Senior Physicist to maintain compliance with applicable State and federal radiation safety regulations. Interfaces with information services and demonstrates a clear understanding and knowledge of computer applications and systems related to Radiation Therapy. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process, and maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Works collaboratively with the respective members of the radiation oncology team.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Perform acceptance testing, evaluation and commissioning of equipment used for external-beam therapy, brachytherapy, simulation, treatment-planning, and radiation detection; acceptance testing and evaluation of their associated computer systems, algorithms, data and output
Measure and characterize medical radiation dosage from radiation therapy treatment, brachytherapy, and simulation equipment prior to clinical use
With the Radiation Oncologist, perform external-beam treatment planning and supervises radiation delivery process; participate in the treatment planning, preparation, insertion and removal of radioactive materials during brachytherapy procedures for LDR and HDR treatments
Perform weekly chart checks, periodic radiation equipment checks (daily, monthly, annually), QA and QA measurements and equipment calibrations
Perform patient specific QA and dosimetry services for all radiation oncology special procedures, including but not limited to SRS, SBRT, HDR, LDR, IMRT, VMAT and IGRT
Provide radiation physics consultation service on patient radiation dose, and associated risks to assure accurate dose delivery, including consultation services to other Medical Center departments, i.e., Diagnostic Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, and Cardiovascular Laboratory as necessary
Work cooperatively with the staff responsible for treatment planning system, software applications, machine maintenance and repair and other physics support staff to ensure the equipment functionality and reliability
Perform radiation safety surveys, radioactive material surveys and radioactive material inventory, and maintains current and complete records of all regulatory compliance tests, surveys, calibrations and documentation
Plan and specify thickness, material, and placement of shielding needed to protect patients, employees, the general public and the environment from radiation produced incident to diagnosis or treatment of humans
Assess and evaluate installed shielding designed to protect patients, workers, and the general public from radiation produced incident to diagnosis or treatment of humans
Develop new treatment techniques and implements new treatment approaches and technologies, Prepare documentations, procedures and support materials
Assist the chief or senior physicist by: monitoring expenses to ensure cost containment; ongoing review and implementation of policies and procedures; providing input for operational decision making; actively participates in the Quality Management Program; and regular attendance at chart rounds, monthly staff meetings
Involved in medical informatics development and IT services associated with the practice of Radiation Oncology
Adhere to the dress code policy of the Department of Radiation Oncology
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Master's Degree - OR - Ph.D. in Medical Physics - OR - Equivalent from a CAMPEP approved program
Certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Therapeutic Medical Physics
Five (5) years of clinical practice experience or completion of CAMPEP approved residency in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics
