Providence is calling a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to Providence Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon. This is a full-time, 3-year term position with full benefits.
Providence is seeking a highly motivated and hardworking individual to join the Cancer Immunoprevention Laboratory as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute (EACRI) at the Providence Cancer Institute. The primary investigator of this laboratory is Sasha Stanton, a breast oncologist and translational researcher who has recently joined the EACRI group. The major goal of this lab is translational research to understand the immune environment of pre-invasive lesions, specifically ductal carcinoma in situ and oral dysplasia, and develop immune-based therapies to treat these lesions and prevent multi-antigen vaccines to both treat these lesions and prevent invasive cancers. The fellowship will be focused on studying the immune environment of oral dysplasia and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, identifying tumor-associated antigen targets, and designing pre-clinical models of a multi-antigen vaccine for oral dysplasia with the goal of submitting an IND to start early phase clinical trials.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be expected to apply for external funding within 2 years of their assignment and are expected to submit at least one 1st author manuscript within the first 3 years of their assignment; then one per year thereafter.
The candidate must be able to both work independently and collaboratively as part of a larger team. Outstanding organizational skills, great attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and high scientific integrity and rigor are essential. A strong working knowledge of human immunology, familiarity with transgenic mouse tumor models of cancer, and experience in T cell biology are major assets. Other assets include experience with immunological techniques such as multicolor flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, ELISA, ELISPOT, and familiarity with MHC class II epitope prediction algorithms.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Design and execute experiments, data analysis, presentation of results, preparation of manuscripts, and training and education of students and peers.
Develop and or implement changes for scientific plans and protocols to accomplish specific scientific objectives.
Independently perform, document and report research results of complex biomedical experiments in support of research activities or specialized scientific laboratory.
Independently develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for solving problems.
Summarize and interpret data; write manuscripts and presents findings in a form suitable for publication or other special reports; present research findings to local and national groups.
Prepare and conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments as necessary.
Stay current with the literature in ongoing and proposed research projects in the field of specialty.
Remain cognizant of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials; uses personal protective equipment; and adheres to strict safety protocols.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Ph.D. in immunology or related field.
Advanced training with in vivo procedures, including murine colony management, genotyping, intravenous injections and in vivo infection or tumor models
Experience in presenting original research in oral and written format is essential, as is proven success in writing and publishing original research
Experience with in vivo procedures, including murine colony management, genotyping, intravenous injections and in vivo infection or tumor models
Demonstrates a track record of progressive biomedical research that indicates a growing level of research independence
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Ph.D. in Immunology -OR- Experience in the field of Immunology
