Providence Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a Postdoctoral Fellow Research - Medical Research (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
We are seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a collaborative project using tumor-derived explants and organoids to ask a range of biological questions in vitro. The ideal candidate will have expertise in 3D culture, tumor-stroma interactions, gene modification, or live cell imaging. The candidate will work with investigators using tumor explants and develop organoid systems and investigate how immune cells interact in the organoids in a range of treatment scenarios, using cells from preclinical models and patient-derived material.
The appointment will be in the Integrated Therapies Laboratory at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute. The principle investigators of the lab are Dr. Michael Gough PhD and Dr. Marka Crittenden MD PhD, and the lab focuses on understanding the interaction between conventional cancer therapies and anti-tumor immunity. The Earle A. Chiles Research Institute within Providence Cancer Institute focuses on cancer immunotherapy, with preclinical investigative teams and translational clinical researchers working together to bring discoveries from the lab bench to the patient’s bedside.
Postdoctoral Fellow Research - Medical Research positions are for one year and may be renewed annually based on demonstrated progress of the Fellows individual development plan and will not typically extend past 5 years. Fellows are expected to apply for external funding within 2 years of their assignment and are expected to submit at least one 1st author manuscript within the first 3 years of their assignment; then one per year thereafter. Fellows perform complex biomedical experiments in support of a research activity or specialized scientific service laboratory. Fellows are expected to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for solving problems. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Develop and or implement changes for scientific plans and protocols to accomplish specific scientific objectives
Independently perform, document and report research results of complex biomedical experiments in support of research activities or specialized scientific laboratory
Independently develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for solving problems
Summarize and interpret data; write manuscripts and present findings in a form suitable for publication or other special reports; present research findings to local and national groups
Prepare and conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments as necessary
Stay current with the literature in ongoing and proposed research projects in the field of specialt
Remain cognizant of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials; uses personal protective equipment; and adheres to strict safety protocols
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Ph.D. in a discipline pertinent to biomedical research
Experience in presenting original research in oral and written format is essential, as is proven success in writing and publishing original research
Demonstrates a track record of progressive biomedical research that indicates a growing level of research independence
Expertise in flow cytometry, primary cell isolation and culture, and molecular biology
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Ph.D. in Immunology -OR- Experience in the field of immunology or tumor biology
