Providence Principal Cloud Operations Engineer PSJH in Portland, Oregon

Description:

Providence is calling a Principal Cloud Operations Engineer (Linux Specialty) for PSJH to Providence Health & Services in Renton, WA; Portland, OR; Irvine, CA or Beaverton, OR.

We are seeking a Principal Cloud Operations Engineer PSJH to provide both expertise in operational support and implementation of internal and business solutions. The Principal Cloud Operations Engineer provides guidance on Cloud Operational strategy and direction and collaborates with leadership to determine and guide evolution of Information Systems. In addition, the Principal Cloud Operations Engineer drives large initiatives and projects to successful completion and takes accountability for the success of Operational efforts overall.

The Principal Cloud Operations Engineer is required to have advanced analytical skills and expert-level skills in several areas of technology. This role requires a broad knowledge of technology and software development in addition to areas of expertise. The successful candidate has advanced knowledge of architecture, systems design, and distributed design and is capable of enterprise and solution level architecture and design. The successful candidate has experience building solutions involving one or more of the major cloud service providers. Also, a Principal Cloud Operations Engineer must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Cloud environments, RedHat Operating system and Automation Tools.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a large-scale cloud environment with geographically distributed teams.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with other teams to build pipelines and improve software development capabilities.

  • Deliver software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts as needed to implement solutions.

  • Research and investigate new capabilities of cloud services and other technologies. Provide timely insight and advice to leadership team to permit the leveraging of these technologies in future plans.

  • Assist in gathering, clarifying, and documenting requirements of solutions. Work collaboratively with architects and other engineers to determine potential gaps and alternative solutions.

  • Maintain and Operationally support the Cloud infrastructure (primarily Azure)

  • Collaboratively develop technical roadmap for the Cloud Operations organization

  • Provide assistance with troubleshooting issues escalated to team

  • Participate in weekly on-call rotation

  • Provide architecture and design services to specify solutions that meet or exceed requirements. Create architecture and design artifacts as required and review with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Engineering, Networking, Monitoring, and other teams as needed.

  • Provide technical vision, direction, and guidance on Engineering strategy and direction to leadership team. Contribute to the departmental strategy plans and roadmaps.

  • Deliver software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts as needed to implement solutions.

  • Provide training and mentoring to other team members on architecture, design, and coding skills and best practices.

  • Provide leadership and technical management of solutioning efforts including large initiatives and projects. Ensure that all participants involved in such efforts have clarity of role and expectations in effort.

  • Research and investigate new capabilities of cloud services and other technologies. Provide timely insight and advice to leadership team to permit the leveraging of these technologies in future plans.

  • Assist in gathering, clarifying, and documenting requirements of solutions. Work collaboratively with architects and other engineers to determine potential gaps and alternative solutions.

  • Ensure that architecture and design proposed by Engineering is in alignment with the organization's standards and policies.

  • Collaboratively develop technical roadmap for Information Services organization.

  • Provide assistance with troubleshooting issues escalated to engineering including on-call assistance for top priority incidents.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent education/experience.

  • 8 years in senior solutions architect or senior software developer role.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 3 years of cloud experience with a minimum of 1 year in an Azure environment.

  • 5 years supporting RedHat servers

  • Experience with Automation tools (particularly Ansible, Packer and Terraform)

  • Ability to lead and direct other team members in the design and support of all systems

  • Provide recommendations, develop and maintain all relevant & necessary documentation (topologies, administration manuals, standard operating procedures, support contracts etc.).

  • Ability to escalate and publish all known and identified risks to system availability and performance.

  • Extensive working knowledge of Servers and Storage for both physical and virtual servers

  • Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS or GCP)
