Role: This is an unparalleled opportunity for a strong, confident, and resilient leader to serve as the Regional Director of Patient Safety in Quality Management. This position's home base is located in NE Portland. The Director will be responsible for:

  • Providing direction and oversight of regional and enterprise-wide patient safety initiatives and outcomes, including the high reliability organization (HRO) transition.

  • Fostering and role modeling the development of a Just Culture that values both individual and system accountability.

  • Leading the implementation of safety programs across the Oregon Region.

  • Assisting the regional ministry leaders in the development of effective departmental patient safety.

  • Managing and facilitating all aspects of adverse events and, in collaboration with the PH&S System Director of Patient Safety, continues development of a proactive patient safety program.

  • Overseeing the investigation of sentinel events with the appropriate groups.

  • Overseeing the preparation of Root Cause Analyses and assists in assuring the tracking and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Overseeing plan to meet annual Oregon Patient Safety Commission (OPSC) reporting targets.

  • Collaboratively leading and coordinating a just culture of high reliability and learning.

  • Providing day to day operation leadership and oversight of a regional patient safety program to improve patient safety and reduce clinical risk.

  • Serving as a liaison to external agencies, such as the Joint Commission, Oregon Health Authority, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Oregon Patient Safety Commission.

  • Have expertise in developing long-range plans, including the establishment of linkages with the ambulatory clinical services division, Providence Medical Group, clinical program division and the Providence Health Plan.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

  • 10 years experience in nursing with 5 years in acute care setting

  • 5 years experience in progressive leadership and management roles

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Masters degree in Nursing, Public Health, Business, Business or Healthcare Administration, or enrolled in a masters level program
