Providence Health & Services Registered Respiratory Therapist in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Registered Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Therapy (0.0 FTE, Variable Shifts) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Therapy who is proficient in operation of hyperbaric chambers and auxiliary equipment, i.e., ventilators, invasive pressure monitoring, transcutaneous. Proficient in advanced wound care treatment. Available for day shift, evening, night, and on-call coverage supporting collectively 24o coverage. Variable staffing shifts are prevalent.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide for accurate administration of hyperbaric therapy to appropriate patients using prescribed treatment protocols and physician orders including transportation of patients, physical preparation of patients and actual chamber operations

  • Provide and implement safety guidelines for all patient care provided in Hyperbaric Department

  • Assess patient for presence of any contraindicated disease process or product usage that is prohibited in Hyperbaric Department

  • Assure proper functioning of life sustaining equipment such as ventilators, as well as operation of hyperbaric chambers according to PPMC, HBO and manufacturer's guidelines

  • Perform basic I.V. functions (adaptations to in-chamber usage) under the supervision of RN, i.e., hanging existing I.V. bags and adapting to chamber tubing and pumps, adjusting rates on pumps

  • Provide education and orientation re: process and purpose of HBO therapy to patients/significant others, physicians, staff, students, and community

  • Perform initial and ongoing health assessment and physical examination using nursing process, patient standards of care and recording status and response to therapy

  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to respond to adverse reactions related to Barotrauma, intervene appropriately

  • Consistently provide care appropriate to the age of the patient

  • Demonstrate competence in interpreting the patient's behavior and information with understanding of chronological maturation and individual development


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Successful completion of Hyperbaric orientation course with 80% passing of written exam

  • Successful completion of Hyperbaric orientation course practicum

  • Licensed, as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Oregon

  • Must have Registered Respiratory Therapist credential - OR - is a recent graduate, acquire the RRT credential within two years of hire

  • Current CPR certification

Preferred qualification in this position include:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
