Providence Health & Services Registrar (On Call) in Portland, Oregon

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Registrar (On Call) to Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Registrar to secure appropriate patient record and account reimbursement by obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.

Access employees will perform all duties in a manner which promotes a team concept, respects diversity, and reflects the Sisters of Providence mission and philosophy.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Interviews patients in a courteous, efficient, and accurate manner to ensure correct and complete information is obtained and documented.

  • Assesses the patient’s ability to complete admission process prior to going to their hospital room or receiving services. Alerts clinical staff if the patient needs immediate attention.

  • Verifies patients demographic information and identifies them in the Providence Health System Master Patient Index or creates a new record in the MPI as appropriate.

  • Obtains required information from payor systems to ensure maximum reimbursement of all accounts. Identifies patients with non-participating plans and resolves issues with appropriate staff and physicians.

  • Verifies and prepares all necessary forms, documents, plates, labels, and wristbands to ensure proper patient identification based on patient type.

  • Maintains current knowledge and competency of all government and third party payors which are complex and ever-changing.

  • Secures patients’ valuables in accordance with PHS procedures, providing appropriate validation documentation, and stores valuables in safe as needed. Returns valuables to patients at discharge and completes valuables log per policy.

  • Attempts collection of copayments on all eligible accounts while ensuring accurate documentation of all activity in the computer system.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of numerous complex compliance requirements. Ensures that compliance guidelines are followed for all Federal, State and other regulatory agencies, which include, but are not limited to, CMS, JCAHO, EMTALA, COBRA, and HIPAA.

  • Obtains all required data to meet the Providence Health Systems Regional Data Set, ensuring accurate and complete Master Person Index.

  • Ensures access to emergency healthcare is not compromised due to the premature collection of insurance data or copays, in compliance with the EMTALA regulations.

  • Requests or provides Advance Directive information while utilizing standard tracking tools. Disseminates Patient Rights and Responsibilities information at the time of admission to appropriate patients according to age and type of admission.

  • Facilitates the rental of guest housing, including check-in procedure, collection and processing of payments, coordinating housekeeping, maintenance, and security services. (PPMC only)

  • Obtains inpatient and outpatient bed assignments in coordination with nursing units, and coordinates bed placement or transfers.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of various complex Diagnostic Imaging test orders. Accurately enters orders for ancillary tests utilizing complex Diagnostic Imaging Matrix.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School degree or equivalent

  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service or healthcare registration

  • Experience with Microsoft Applications

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Minimum of two years college education.

  • National Certification of CHAA.

  • Satisfactory completion of college level Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant course.

  • Previous registrar and third party payor experience.

  • Knowledge with State, Federal and other regulatory Compliance

  • Knowledge of healthcare registration functions.

  • Previous healthcare experience, in either a provider or payor site.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through work experience or college course work, preferred.

  • Demonstrates the ability and skill to anticipate and diffuse potentially challenging situations and individuals, assuring a positive outcome.

  • Previous healthcare experience, in either a provider or payor site.

  • Computer applications related to registration functions
