Providence Health & Services RN Clinic Float - Staffing Resource Department *New Grads Welcome* in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a RN Clinic - Staffing Resource Department (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Office Park Portland, OR. This position floats to all Providence clinics in the Portland Metro (schedule is usually provided 3 weeks in advance, and clinic assignments are usually long-term 3-6 months).

This position's schedule is M-F from 8 AM to 5 PM (though schedule can vary based on clinic floated to).

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Clinic - Staffing Resource Department who will be responsible for facilitating the patient care flow in the clinic while providing direct patient care for an assigned provider. This position will facilitate the workflow in the area by conducting nursing assessments and documentation. In addition, this staff member will contribute expertise in the areas of patient scheduling, telephone advice and pharmacy needs. The Clinic Nurse will assist with maintaining compliance to professional nursing standards and regulatory requirements and will support physicians in delivering quality health care to patients taking into account the patients' individual physical or age-related needs.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide or assure direct patient care for patients of an assigned provider according to professional nursing standards of care and MA staff policies/procedures to include:

  • Reviewing patient charts prior to their scheduled appointment, including and completing necessary forms

  • Escorting patients promptly to exam rooms and preparing patients for examinations or other procedures such as pre-op scrubbing, pap smears, etc.

  • Obtaining information from patients including weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, symptoms, and current medications

  • Obtain specimens from patients using appropriate techniques, including phlebotomy, as directed by physicians

  • Insert and maintain intravenous catheters, administers immunizations, injections, and medications (including IV) as directed by physicians and in accordance with nursing standards

  • Assist physicians with examinations, treatments (e.g., inhalation therapies, splinting), and testing procedures as directed by physicians

  • Observe, record, and report patient’s conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments by physicians

  • Obtain prior authorizations as directed by physicians

  • Document all patient activity and contact in the EMR or medical chart

  • Order, refill, and dispense prescriptions as directed by physicians

  • Screen walk-in patients and telephone calls to physicians. Triage and advise patients as appropriate and determines acuity level of patients that present to the clinic

  • Periodically screen patients in waiting area to assure patient safety

  • Call patients to answer questions and give instructions as directed by physicians

  • Conduct patient education and provide educational materials and instruction as directed by physicians

  • Identify and assist physician and other personnel in stabilizing, treating and/or triaging patients who may need a higher level of care

  • Provides the following support functions as needed:

  • Schedule appointments for patients requiring x-rays, lab work, hospitalization, physician appointment and other medical needs

  • Complete and mail test results forms, insurance referrals, and other patient documents as directed by physicians

  • Prepare, stock, clean exam rooms

  • Set up exam rooms for special procedures or surgery

  • Oversee the physician inventory to include maintenance of clinical supplies, medical forms, medications, injectables, and laboratory supplies and notify the Clinic Manager when supplies are needed

  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

  • Meet with drug representatives as necessary

  • Serve as a resource for clinical support staff

  • Access consistency of workflow and redistributes duties throughout the shift to ensure timely completion

  • Assist Clinic Manager with monitoring for compliance of staff to documentation, quality assurance, and utilization management programs, preventative guidelines and accreditation requirements

  • Communicate and collaborate with physicians regarding daily operational issues

  • Assist in the development of protocols/policies/procedures for implementation of patient and clinical services in coordination with physicians and Clinic Manager


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree Nursing

  • Current Oregon RN license

  • Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Experience working independently without supervision

  • Experience working in multiple diverse clinical environments
