Providence Health & Services RN Quality Management Coordinator in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a RN Quality Management Coordinator to the Quality Management And Medical Staff Services Department at Providence Oregon Regional Shared Services in Portland, OR. This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), day shift position.

We are seeking a RN Quality Management Coordinator - Quality Management And Medical Staff Services who will provide assessment, evaluation and support for all quality initiatives within PHS Oregon. Provide concurrent and retrospective support managing initiatives to comply and in accordance with Center for Medicare and Medicaid requirements, The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements, administrative and program personnel, and third party payors. Actively work with physician leadership, Directors and Managers in the development and implementation of quality efforts, including preparation, risk monitoring and reduction in clinical and non-clinical systems, and coordination of multidisciplinary quality improvement projects. Act as a facilitator and mentor for Department teams related to performance improvement. Authorize and make decisions on recommendations and innovative solutions. Serve as a resource and consultant for Quality Improvement activities and Professional Staff quality and peer review activities. Assist in development and performance of educational activities as related to Quality Improvement, Accreditation requirements, and Resource Utilization.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage and facilitate Quality Improvement Multidisciplinary teams to:

  • Develop and maintain effective teams with a clear vision and expectations

  • Define goals and objectives

  • Identify and resolve problems

  • Provide guidance in the development of action oriented work plans to reduce process variation

  • Consistent internal and external benchmarking on performance related metrics

  • Evaluate effectiveness of implementation

  • Coach team members

  • Assist hospital departments and programs in establishing and maintaining quality assessment and resource utilization activities and, where appropriate, investigate and implement hospital-wide programs

  • Assist and collaborate with Professional Staff and Leadership in quality and patient care improvement activities to:

  • Analyze patterns and trends for focused reviews and providing feedback to physicians and program managers

  • Communicate strategic priorities and metrics

  • Assist with development of performance improvement plans

  • Facilitate annual review and revision for department and professional staff quality plans, aligning with the system and regional quality strategic plan

  • Collaborate to provide consultation and seek resolution in patient care issues

  • Be accountable for coordination of activities to ensure hospital, staff, and patient safety; including facilitating appropriate responses to unusual occurrences, serious safety concerns and Sentinel Events

  • Demonstrate understanding and utilization of tones, tools and behaviors that promote patient safety in a highly reliable organization

  • Apply all concepts of the nursing process, such as identification of disease, facilitation of healing, health promotion, illness prevention and patient care delivery to all aspects of performance improvement

  • Participate in ongoing education and training pertinent to activities for ensuring patient safety

  • Provide coordination of Risk Management Activities including:

  • Identify and assess loss potential through reports, communication with staff and complaints

  • Intervene in loss prevention and reduction

  • Participate in loss funding and risk financing

  • Reduce, and/or prevent injuries to patients, visitors, and employees, as well as to minimize property damage

  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and medical and hospital personnel

  • Identify and participate in hospital safety and liability awareness training

  • Act as focal point for verbal reports or potential critical incidents

  • Conduct/direct investigations of all major incidents

  • Collaborate with outside claims representative and legal counsel to obtain depositions, preserve physical evidence, uncover incident facts, evaluate adequacy of medical record documentation

  • Ensure monthly incident statistics are compiled and distributed to applicable committees and department leadership to aid in pinpointing problem trends

  • Receive input from and provides guidance to the patient representative in promptly resolving patient complaints including the authority to absorb patient/visit charges where indicated

  • Assure coordination of Risk Management information with other ongoing QA efforts

  • Compile and distribute risk management reports as requested by hospital administration

  • Accreditation and Regulatory Activities:

  • Maintain current knowledge of accreditation and licensure requirements, monitoring and providing updates reflecting ongoing changes in standards

  • Provide ongoing assessment, education, and consultation in regulatory standards for continual readiness among facilities

  • Provide guidance in the development of action oriented work plans for site survey improvement activities

  • Provide routine reports to leadership identifying opportunities, deficiencies, and responses to accreditation bodies

  • Collaborate in dissemination of regulatory updates and information across the PHSOR facilities

  • Work collaboratively and participate in Oregon region responsibilities as directed


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing

  • Current unencumbered RN licensure in the state of Oregon

  • Five (5) years clinical experience

  • Five (5) years hospital experience in a progressively responsible position(s) requiring contact with various departments

  • Demonstrated clinical experience related to a wide variety of patient populations and care delivery models

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, with physicians, nursing, public, and all levels of hospital management

  • Demonstrated evidence of self-motivation

  • High level of communication skills in order to clearly and concisely with all levels of Nursing, Administration, and Professional staff

Preferred qualification for this position include:

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Business, Healthcare or Business Administration

  • Adult medical surgical experience
