Providence is calling a Scientific Publications Writer to Providence Health & Services in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Scientific Publications Writer for the Oregon Region to be responsible for writing, editing and reviewing scientific publications (manuscripts, abstracts, poster presentations) in a timely, effective and professional manner, managing collaboration and communication with teams of investigators, co-writers and expert contributors, always emphasizing the highest standards of integrity.

In this position you will:

  • Write, review and edit publications (manuscripts, abstracts, poster presentations, etc.); prepare manuscripts for journal submission by formatting to the journal style.

  • Drive document writing and review processes.

  • Engage investigators in the writing.

  • Develop and maintain timelines for document generation, revision, and completion, with collaboration with co-writers and other study team members.

  • Coordinate literature searches, image preparation and formatting.

  • Conduct reference formatting, editing / proofreading of grammar and content and cover letter preparation.

  • Coordinate and manage review cycles, incorporate team comments, and lead discussions on document revision and finalization in an organized and timely way.

  • Prepares responses to reviewers' comments


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or MS/MPH/MA in a scientific or medical discipline or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5 years of medical scientific writing/editing experience in academia, academic medical centers, industry, professional societies, research organizations or national task forces.

  • Track record of writing and editing successful publications.

  • Solid scientific writing and editorial skills (must provide examples).

  • Detail-oriented; attentiveness to detail is critical

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, on interpersonal and technical levels

  • Knowledge of advanced PubMed searching strategies and experience with the American Medical Association Manual of Style

  • Must have good organization, project management and planning skills, proven ability to handle multiple priorities, coordinate teams, and work independently

  • Expertise in MS Word and Excel, including the ability to solve technical problems with documents and templates; experience with EndNote and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Advanced degree PhD in a scientific or medical discipline or equivalent.
