Providence Senior Accountant (Remote - SW WA / OR) in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a Senior Accountant who will:

  • Be responsible for the preparation and review of Health Plan financial statements

  • Perform analysis of the operating statement, balance sheet and other financial reports

  • Prepare or review monthly account reconciliations, and journal entries

  • Be called upon to be the department 'expert' on specific areas of accounting applications or functions, such as banking, revenue, medical expense and/or specific lines of business

  • Be responsible for implementing, and complying with, System Financial Compliance and Control Policies including Technical Accounting Bulletins

We welcome 100% remote work for residents living in SW Washington and Oregon.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to a rigid deadline on closing the books for financial statement preparation and meet rigid regulatory reporting deadlines

  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, changing environment with non-negotiable due dates

  • Using multiple financial and operating systems to produce monthly financial reports & critically review for trends and variance analysis (Facets, Hyperion, Oracle, Data Warehouse, Strata)

  • Prepares financial reporting for senior management

  • Prepares or reviews journal entries

  • Prepares or reviews the monthly reconciliation of account balances. Ensure accounts are accurately reconciled and timely

  • Assists in the preparation of regulatory & tax filings

  • Participate on project teams providing financial support and representing Accounting requirements (i.e.: financial forecasts, administrative expense analysis, GL set up, etc.). Projects may include new lines of business, geographic expansion, system upgrades

  • Responsible for provider accounting which includes medical expense accounting for all accounts related to the recording of medical expenses

  • Responsible for bank relationship and all reporting related to bank activities

  • Responsible for annual budget and long range financial plan

  • Assists in the accurate, complete and timely preparation of appropriate audit schedules. Assist the auditors to make sure their needs are met

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supports the internal control framework of the Health Plan Accounting Department

  • Use reporting tools, analytic skills and accounting knowledge to isolate and correct problems. Investigate inquiries concerning variances in revenues, expenses and account balances

  • Manages own workload to meet reporting and special requests deadlines

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • 3 years' progressive experience related to accounting (health care industry)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • CPA or CMA

  • Graduate level education -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • Leadership experience
