Providence Health & Services Senior Accountant in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a Senior Accountant to work in our Health Plan office in Portland, Or. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation and review of Health Plan financial statements. Performs analysis of the operating statement, balance sheet, and other financial reports. Will prepare or review monthly account reconciliations, and journal entries. Each Senior Accountant will be called upon to be the department 'expert' on specific areas of accounting applications or functions, such as banking, revenue, medical expense, administrative expense, and/or specific lines of business. In addition, he or she is responsible for implementing, and complying with, System Financial Compliance and Control Policies including Technical Accounting Bulletins.
Adhering to a rigid deadline on closing the books for financial statement preparation and meet rigid regulatory reporting deadlines.
Managing multiple priorities in a fast paced, changing environment with non-negotiable due dates.
Using multiple financial and operating systems to produce monthly financial reports. (Facets, Hyperion, Lawson, data warehouse, Strata)
Prepares monthly financial statements and critically reviews for trends and variance analysis
Prepares financial reporting for senior management
Prepares or reviews journal entries
Prepares or reviews the monthly reconciliation of account balances. Ensure accounts are accurately reconciled and timely
Participate on project teams providing financial support and representing Accounting requirements (i.e.: financial forecasts, administrative expense analysis, GL set up, etc.) Projects may include new lines of business, geographic expansion, system upgrades
Responsible for provider accounting which includes medical expense accounting for all accounts related to the recording of medical expenses
Responsible for bank relationship and all reporting related to bank activities
Assists in the accurate, complete and timely preparation of appropriate audit schedules. Assist the auditors to make sure their needs are met
Supports the internal control framework of the Health Plan Accounting Department
Use reporting tools, analytic skills and accounting knowledge to isolate and correct problems. Investigate inquiries concerning variances in revenues, expenses and account balances
Manages own workload to meet reporting and special requests' deadlines
Required Qualifications include:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivilent education and experience
3 years Progressive Accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications include:
Graduate level education: CPA
Healthcare industry experience
Statutory Accounting experience
