Providence Health & Services Senior Policy Associate in Portland, Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Policy Associate to any of our locations in AK, CA, MT, NM, OR, TX or WA or outside of that footprint (remote worker).

We are seeking a Senior Policy Associate to be responsible for helping the Chief Strategy Officer manage the portfolio and develop the Trust’s national leadership on mental health policy. This individual will work closely will all members of the Well Being Trust team, but will be primarily responsive to the increasing needs of the policy portfolio. This position reports to the CSO at Well Being Trust and will serve as a thought partner and collaborator with him in all facets of policy development. In addition, this position will interface directly with other WBT senior leadership, external partners, and grantees.

Well Being Trust is a small but growing national foundation with a focus on mental health and well-being. As the foundation prepares to launch its 2020-2022 strategic plan, it is seeking a self-driving and experienced health policy associate to provide support for its growing policy portfolio.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee and update relevant policy materials.

  • Assist in writing op-eds, policy briefs, and other public facing materials in alignment with the WBT brand.

  • Work with partner organizations to develop proposals for potential award and manage deliverables on funded projects.

  • Work with local, state, and national partners on creating solutions for policy to advance mental health

  • Collaborate with other program staff to ensure policy materials align with other WBT products.

  • Prepare presentations and other materials for WBT Senior Team to use in public forums.

  • Stay informed on the latest health policy issues and emerging practice evidence to integrate into Well Being Trust products and policy positions.

  • Present publicly on the topic of policy, and be media prepared to talk confidently about health policy and mental health.

  • Support CSO with timely requests on policy responses and fact checking all policy materials coming in and going out of the organization.

  • Travel approx. 25%.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5 years working with nonprofits, foundations or public-sector agencies with a grantmaking or subcontracting function.

  • 3 years program management experience.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Policy, Psychology, or related field.

  • 2 years solid knowledge in health policy, both mental health and more broadly.

  • 2 years expertise in health insurance coverage, including Medicaid and Medicare.

  • 1 year experience managing a complex set of partners and programs.
