Providence is calling a Supervisor Nursing House - Nursing Service Administration (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.
We are seeking a Supervisor Nursing House - Nursing Service Administration that will coordinate the general operation of the Department of Nursing and provides administrative coverage for those departments operating on a 24-hour basis when senior administrative personnel are not present. The House Supervisor demonstrates a wide range of general nursing knowledge and unit specific skills, including application of the nursing process. The House Supervisor acts as a mentor and role model for the nursing staff in development of problem solving assertiveness and leadership skills. The House Supervisor also works in collaboration with the nurse manager, and central staffing office with staffing and in-crisis situations. Ability to communicate effectively, function in the crisis/urgent situations and to follow-up (in real time) with department managers and/or Directors and staff, are key skills required for this position. This House Supervisor is accountable for patient flow, capacity, quality and experience of nursing services at the facility level in support of the Providence Health & Services system and regional goals. This includes, but not limited to, assuring safe, efficient and effective patient placement balanced with optimal patient care and services. The House Supervisor constructively manages change and promotes a team based approach exemplifying the standards of behaviors.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Mentor staff and promote the professional practice of staff
Monitor staff compliance with standard of care, hospital and nursing polices and procedures to ensure safe scope of care
Handle conflict resolution with positive outcomes and coaches/supports staff likewise
Involve staff in decision-making processes
Identify own professional growth and development needs and acts appropriately
Complete assignments /projects in a timely manner and requests assistance as necessary
Work with Director and other Managers on employee relations/performance issues
Follow hospital policy, collective bargaining agreements, and federal/state regulations in employment and disciplinary practice
Encourage staff's participation in department and hospital committee/activities/professional opportunities
Serve as a communication liaison between staff and nursing/hospital administration
Use proactive problem solving with health care team members to ensure the delivery of quality care
Keep health care team members informed of changes affecting their delivery of care as needed
Communicate with patient and families, addressing their concerns/issues in a timely manner
Assist in maintaining an environment conducive to attainment of job satisfaction for Staff members
Establish and promote collegial relationships with members of the health care team, services, administration, and ancillary departments
BUDGET AND STANDARDS:
Give input and regularly reviews departmental policies, procedures and standards of practice consistent with hospital philosophy/mission as well as licensing and regulatory agencies
Interpret policy for staff as needed
Support Quality Improvement Process as a method for evaluating the quality of care
Provide feedback to staff on quality improvement issues
Support the nurse sensitive quality indicators and patient experience improvements to achieve top decile performance in conjunction with the department of nursing
Required qualifications in this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Oregon State Board of Nursing
Current Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Five (5) years of staff nurse experience
Preferred qualifications in this position includes:
Master's Degree in Nursing -OR- related field
