Providence Vice President for Population Health and Research Technology in Portland, Oregon
The Vice President for Population Health and Research Technology (VP PH&RT) is accountable to develop and execute a system strategy in support of furthering PSJH technology capabilities related to the areas of Population Health and Clinical Research. The VP of PH&RT will be directly accountable for:
Strategic Planning: With a deep understanding of the areas of the Population Health and Clinical Research, the VP PH&RT will work with key system and regional executive leaders, industry SMEs, and operational leadership to help craft and maintain a technology roadmap that enables core business objectives of the supported business units.
The Population Health and Research technology roadmap will center on the single enterprise platform strategy adopted by PSJH; seeking to leverage and proliferate the Epic (and/or Meditech in the short term) platforms where appropriate, or to align with existing non-Epic platforms should they already exist in the technology environment.
Prioritization: Working with executive leadership and key business stakeholders, and taking a multiyear view, the VP PH&RT will prioritize Population Health and Research technology initiatives within existing technology and business resources. Prioritization work will involve a diverse group of regional and system level leaders, as well as clinical leadership enterprise wide. Additionally, the VP PH&RT will need to partner across the technology department to understand how enterprise platforms may impact the overall roadmap for accountable areas.
Where gaps may exist between available resources to accomplish initiatives and key business deliverables, the VP PH&RT will work through enterprise project request processes to secure funding and or needed resources. Partnership with finance and system level strategy will be required to accomplish this work.
Drive Execution: The Vice President for PH&RT will lead a team of engineers, application developers, application support analysts, and other associated technical and project management roles in support of executing the Population Health and Research technology roadmaps. The VP PH&RT will partner across the Information Service department to leverage enterprise platforms (such as Azure, Oracle, or Epic) to accomplish projects and programs.
Where enterprise platforms or existing solutions don’t meet business objectives, the VP PH&RT will work with vendors to secure and implement new solutions or lead development teams to build new products from the ground up. These new products will align with the overall PSJH strategic objectives for technology and adhere to enterprise security standards.
The VP PR&RT will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team for the Strategic Technology Enablement group within the Information Services department. The role may be accountable to provide executive leadership for programs beyond the areas identified above as needed to support to the objectives of the Strategic Technology Enablement group.

The VP, Population Health Technology will have the following accountabilities:
Strong understanding of the healthcare processes related to population health and clinical research (and/or genomic research).Strong understanding of industry / trends in the areas of Population Health and Research.
Detailed understanding of the healthcare business model and the relationship between payors and healthcare providers.
Ability to lead matrixed teams across and org to achieve business outcomes / objectives.
Ability to build new processes and structures from the ground up, and able to be flexible while processes are being established to drive work forward.
Serve as the executive leader for a team of senior leaders, analysts, engineers, project managers, and other roles required to support execution of strategic road maps.
Perform all duties in a manner that promotes PSJH mission, values, and philosophy.In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.
Ability to partner across a large complex matrix organization to bring stakeholders (including executive leadership) to common agreement on the path forward and achieve business outcomes.
Identifying and developing custom solutions, in alignment with PSJH IS strategy, to address gaps & opportunities between enterprise IS strategy and business partners strategic roadmap.
Required education/experience for this position include:
Master’s Degree in Technology, Management, Healthcare, or related field; or equivalent educ/experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Management, Healthcare, or related field.
More than 10 years of Senior healthcare technology leadership experience including experience related to population health and/or clinical research.
More than 10 years of experience in leading a team to support the creation and execution of strategic plans / roadmaps; with complementing experience in executing on plans / roadmaps.
5 years of experience working in an executive or senior leadership role that required collaborating across multiple technology and/or business functions to achieve business outcomes.
5 years of experience working in a technology leadership role with experience related to clinical, billing, or operational healthcare workflows.
Ability to analyze information, evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Ability to analyze information gathered by investigation, and report findings and recommendations.
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Demonstrated analytical skills and data-driven approach
Knowledge of financial principles and practices and the ability to apply them effectively.
Experience with Epic modules such as Caboodle and Healthy Planet are a strong plus
